Right now you might be wondering to yourself, “how do I find what version of Excel do I have?”

Windows allows us to associate the newer Office version to all relevant files by executing a Quick Repair action from the Control panel. Steps are described below: Open the Control Panel in your system and click Programs and Features. Search and check on Microsoft Office 2016. The Office PowerPoint menus are different for each version so the steps will be different. Follow the steps below to see what version of Office PowerPoint you have installed. Applies to PowerPoint 2000, PowerPoint 2003, PowerPoint 2007, PowerPoint 2010 32-bit, PowerPoint 2010 64-bit, PowerPoint 2013 32-bit, PowerPoint 2013 64-bit, PowerPoint 365. Windows allows us to associate the newer Office version to all relevant files by executing a Quick Repair action from the Control panel. Under Product Information, you'll find your Office product name and, in some cases, the full version number. 1 - Product name, such as Microsoft 365 ProPlus or Office Home and Student. 2 - Version number, which includes version, build number, and the type of installation such as Click-to-run or Windows Store.

It’s a good question too, because Microsoft Excel has been around since 1985! Now this guide is going to assume you aren’t chugging along with the 1985 version, but we will show you how to find the most popular versions still in use today.

You will find the ‘file’ menu in all Microsoft Office programs. It will usually be the first tab on the top bar- on the top left. See the below graphic for more information.

The file menu is home to a lot of powerful features, whether you are using Excel 2016 or Excel 2007. I would recommend looking for more information in the file tab.

Once you've found the 'Account' menu, click on 'About Excel'

The account menu also includes information about Excel version updates, and allows you to change your Office theme. The Office theme I use is the dark theme as you can see in the screenshots. It’s much easier on the eyes when you work with these programs all of the time!

And there it is! Your version of Microsoft Excel. Again, if you have Excel through a Microsoft Office Suite, then you will see the same across all of your Office programs. Looking at mine below, I am using Office 365, the 32-bit version.

What does it all mean? Well, because I am using Office 365, which is a cloud based subscription service that stores most of Office in the Cloud and Onedrive, We can see that version listed here. Let’s break it down bit-by-bit to make it easier to understand.

Microsoft Excel for Office 365 is the program and service I’m using.

MSO stands for Microsoft Office

(16.0.11929.20708) is the version number and shows if there have been any updates or not. You can install the latest Microsoft Office updates here.

The end will either be 32-bit or 64-bit. Here’s a quick summary of the differences. The 32-bit version is lighter weight and can run on 32-bit system (or older systems to put it simply) and 64-bit means it can run and use more memory, which is great when dealing with large amounts of data. For most people, 32-bit will do the trick, but consider upgrading it to 64-bit if you think you might need the extra oomph!

Probably not! If you do not see this menu you probably have an older version. In that case follow the below steps:

  1. Go to the ‘help tab’ on the top bar
  2. Choose the last menu option ‘About Microsoft Excel’
  3. It will display your current version!

Determine Office 32 Or 64 Bit

Alright, then you may have Excel 2007 or 2010. In that case follow the below:

  1. Click the Office button in the top left on the top bar. It looks like this:
  2. Then click ‘Excel Options’
  3. Then click ‘Resources’
  4. Then click ‘About’
  5. And you should see your version number!

Alright, if you STILL DON’T See your version number, then I’m impressed! You’ve navigated to this site with a dinosaur of a device. But hey, it’s possible. I’m not going to go in to detail on how to find those version numbers, but I recommend upgrading if possible as the new Excel’s have A TON OF POWERFUL FEATURES that will make your life so much easier. This document describes how you can determine the version of Office you have installed on your computer. These instructions assume you already have an Outlook profile/account configured. If you do not have Outlook configured, you can substitute Outlook with any of the other Office applications in the steps below.

Important: To get the latest features/updates, it is recommended that you install the Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus/Subscription/enterprise version of Office/Outlook. The Professional Plus/2016/2019/Volume License version is only receiving security updates.

  • Note - Windows 7 End of Support and Office 365 ProPlus

    • As announced previously, Windows 7 will be out of support after January 14, 2020. Because Office 365 is governed by the Modern Lifecycle Policy, customers are required to stay current as per the servicing and system requirements for the product or service. This includes using Office 365 ProPlus on a Windows operating system that is currently in support.

      Using Office 365 ProPlus on older, unsupported operating systems may cause performance and reliability issues over time. Technisat mobile phones & portable devices driver. If your organization is using Office 365 ProPlus on devices running Windows 7, we strongly recommend your organization move those devices to Windows 10.

      [How does this impact me?]

      Even though Windows 7 will no longer be supported after January 2020, we understand Office 365 customers may need more time in their migration to a supported operating system. Through January 2023, Microsoft will provide security updates for Office 365 ProPlus on Windows 7. But, during that time, as long as the device is still running Windows 7, Office 365 ProPlus won’t receive any new features updates.

      [What should I do to prepare for this change?]

      We recommend that organizations migrate to Windows 10 or a supported operating system before the end of support date on January 14, 2020 in order to continue receiving new feature updates to Office 365 ProPlus. Make sure to discuss this process with your local IT staff before making changes to your system.

      We’ll be providing more information by January about how to get security updates for Office 365 ProPlus on devices running Windows 7 after support for Windows 7 ends.

Windows OS

  1. Start Outlook/Word or any other Microsoft Office application.
  2. On the File menu, click Office Account or Account.
  3. Under Product Information, you'll see the general version of Office installed on your computer.

    365 subscription - you must have an active Office 365
    ProPlus license/subscription to run this version.

    This version was downloaded/installed from Campus Software Library (CSL).
  4. For complete version, click About Outlook/Word. A new window will appear. The top will display the build information and if the client is 32- or 64-bit.
  5. Click left arrow to return to Outlook/Word.

Mac OS

  1. Start Outlook/Word or any other Microsoft Office application.
  2. From the Outlook menu on the Apple menu bar, select About Outlook.
  3. You will be presented with the 'About Outlook/Word' screen:

  4. Click red X to return to Outlook/Word.
